Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS turns a supplied text transcript into audio. It is a speech-generation model for narration and dialogue, with speaker and style information supplied separately from the words to be spoken.
Ordinary directions written into the transcript can be spoken aloud. Put sustained delivery instructions and speaker labels in speech_metadata. Reserve inline event tags for momentary vocal events and pauses. For multiple speakers, attach the matching speaker metadata to every turn.
The documented input limit is 8,192 tokens and the serving output limit is 16,384 tokens. Unary requests return WAV by default. A pipeline written for older raw-PCM output should write the returned WAV bytes directly instead of adding another header.
Use names, numbers, abbreviations, punctuation and language changes from your own scripts. Listen to the whole recording for pacing, unwanted spoken directions, sudden volume changes and differences between turns. Check the actual output format in the player or processing tool your audience will use.
This model does not offer function calling or the Live API. Choose Gemini 3.8 Live for a bidirectional conversation, or browse text-to-speech models for narration alternatives.
