AI model comparison

Claude Sonnet 5.5 vs Mistral Large 4

Compare pricing, context limits, supported inputs and deployment options to choose a model for your workflow.

These models are relevant to agents that inspect code, interpret supplied documents and call tools. Mistral Large 4 offers an open-weight route and a hosted public preview. Claude Sonnet 5.5 is a hosted Claude model. Select the operational route before comparing their answers.

Keep tool access the same

A repository agent with a shell and executable tests has different evidence from a chat model given a short pasted snippet. Use the same repository revision, tools and task boundaries. When one client supplies extra retrieval or repair logic, record that advantage as an integration difference.

Documents and images

Use real diagrams, screenshots and conflicting document versions. Require answers to distinguish visible evidence from inference. Both a confident guess and a misread number should count as failures even when the response is well written.

Preview and service limits

Record Large 4’s preview status and promotional price and its eligibility conditions alongside Claude’s actual host, account limits and processing mode. A weight licence and a managed API contract describe different deployment choices.

Workload guidance

Which model should you choose?

A useful decision process

Shortlist Large 4 if running or adapting a checkpoint is part of the requirement. Shortlist Sonnet if you want to evaluate a managed Claude agent workflow. Neither choice establishes which model solves your repository issues more reliably.

Run ordinary tasks as well as difficult ones. Track completed work, recovery after a failed tool action and review time. Compare total attempts and accepted-result cost. Keep one failure example from each candidate in the evaluation record so the final choice remains understandable after a model update.
