What is Mercury 2?

An earlier Mercury revision

Inception’s current model page keeps Mercury 1, Mercury 2 and Mercury Edit 2 supported for existing customers. Mercury 2 therefore remains a relevant version for an existing integration even though Mercury 2.5 is the current general starting point. Existing-customer support is different from retirement and does not establish unrestricted access for every new account.

Preserve a working integration during migration

Record the exact API route, model identifier and account conditions used by an existing application. Before moving to Mercury 2.5, replay the message history, tool schemas and expected response format on representative tasks. A shared diffusion architecture does not guarantee that every prompt, control or output behaves identically between revisions.

Access and billing

Confirm legacy access or migration with the provider. A separate current first-party token rate and maximum output allowance for this earlier revision have not been established in this review, so no replacement price or output cap is invented. Hosted partners can have their own account rules and limits; retain those deployment details when reproducing a result.

Evaluating Mercury 2

Build a small evaluation set from the work your application actually handles. Include incomplete information, contradictory inputs and a case that should stop for clarification. Define an acceptable deliverable before running the model, then inspect failures as carefully as successful examples. Keep input material, tools and effort settings consistent when comparing candidates.

Record the exact model identifier, deployment route and request settings with each result. Count complete runs, including rejected outputs, retries and tool calls. When the workflow creates files or code, open the files or execute the existing checks before accepting the result. A plausible first response can hide an incomplete final deliverable.

The specifications describe supported interfaces and request capacity. They do not establish a measured quality ranking or a latency guarantee for your account. SyncDev has not independently benchmarked this model. Choose a deployment after testing the languages, input formats and operating conditions that matter to your users.

How to evaluate Mercury 2

Compare the model on the work you need to complete.

Tasks and inputs

Mercury 2 is listed for Text generation. It accepts text and produces text. Use the publisher’s input format and preprocessing for your chosen deployment.

Capacity and cost

Documented limits: 128K context. Measure a completed task using the prompts, documents and tools your application will use. Include reasoning and retries in the result.

Choosing a deployment

Use the model identifier and account requirements for the selected API route. Confirm its request limits and output format with one complete task before connecting a larger workflow.
