What is the PostHog Official MCP Server?

PostHog's official hosted MCP server connects an assistant to product analytics and supported workflows across PostHog products.

Use a defined measurement question

Name the project, event, date range and metric before asking for a report. For a conversion change, distinguish unique people from event counts and specify the funnel window. Ask the assistant to show the query or report definition alongside the interpretation so someone can reproduce the result.

Hosted setup

The current endpoint is https://mcp.posthog.com/mcp. The authentication flow routes the signed-in account to its US or EU data region. PostHog documents a setup wizard and manual client configurations. Confirm the organization and project after authentication; the successful connection alone does not select the intended dataset.

Reading and changing product state

The server supports analytics queries and workflows involving features such as flags and error investigation. Review the intended project and change before applying a write. Use an existing flag's identifier rather than relying on an ambiguous display name.

Connecting and calling MCP tools is described as free, but AI-powered tools can incur PostHog AI spend and require organization AI-processing settings. Treat those charges separately from ordinary product usage.

Current source location

The old standalone posthog/mcp repository is archived and points to the PostHog monorepo. This profile uses current hosted documentation rather than treating the archived package as the maintained implementation. For website measurement, compare Google Analytics, keeping the underlying event definitions separate.
