Secrets management for AI agents via MCP
Janee MCP server exists for a simple reason — assistants are far more useful when they can act on Janee directly instead of describing what you should do. Secrets management for AI agents via MCP.
AI agents need API access to be useful. The current approach is to give them your keys and hope they behave.
Once Janee is connected, these are the calls the assistant has available:
list_services — Discover available APIs and their policiesexecute — Make an API request through Janee (HTTP proxy mode)exec — Run a CLI command with injected credentials (exec mode)manage_credential — View, grant, or revoke access to agent-scoped credentialsreload_config — Reload config from disk after adding/removing services (available when started with janee serve)Initialize — The Initialize tool exposed by this serverThe server ships on npm as @true-and-useful/create-gh-app, so your MCP client can launch it on demand — there is no separate build step. Add the server block to your client's configuration, restart it, and the tools register themselves.
You will need 8 environment variables: TWITTER_API_KEY, GITHUB_TOKEN, JANEE_RUNNER_KEY, JANEE_URL, STRIPE_KEY, BYBIT_KEY, BYBIT_SECRET, GH_APP_ID. The server will not start without them, which is usually why the tools fail to appear on a first run. Keep credentials in your client's env block or a secrets manager rather than in a file you might commit.
This sits in the developer tooling group, where several servers overlap in what they claim to do but differ sharply once you actually set them up. Janee's toolset — list_services, execute, exec and 3 more — is a fair guide to whether it matches your workflow. It is maintained by rsdouglas; worth a glance at recent repository activity before you build anything load-bearing on it.
This entry was verified against Janee's own documentation before publication; SyncDev keeps the directory reviewed rather than auto-generated.
