MCP Server built for use with Claude Code, Claude Desktop, VS Code, Cline - enable google search and ability to follow links and research websites
Google Search MCP server exists for a simple reason — assistants are far more useful when they can act on Google Search directly instead of describing what you should do. MCP Server built for use with Claude Code, Claude Desktop, VS Code, Cline - enable google search and ability to follow links and research websites.
A standalone Windows MCP server that gives Claude Google search and web research capabilities, powered by SerpAPI. It ships as a single self-contained .exe — no Node.js, no npm install, no external runtime.
Once Google Search is connected, these are the calls the assistant has available:
google_search — Search Google and get quality-scored results with authority ratingsextract_webpage_content — Extract clean readable content from any URLextract_multiple_webpages — Extract up to 5 URLs concurrentlyresearch_topic — Multi-source research that returns a structured synthesis promptinit — Install the skills and agent into ~/.claude/skills and ~/.claude/agentsuninstall — Remove the installed skills and agentstatus — Show install statusdiagnose — Self-test: makes one live SerpAPI request and reports timingSetup follows the usual MCP pattern — install or clone the server, register it in your client's configuration file, restart the client.
You will need one environment variable: SERPAPI_KEY. The server will not start without them, which is usually why the tools fail to appear on a first run. Keep credentials in your client's env block or a secrets manager rather than in a file you might commit.
Plenty of developer tooling servers cover similar ground. The differences that matter in practice are scope of access and how much setup stands between you and a working tool call. Google Search's toolset — google_search, extract_webpage_content, extract_multiple_webpages and 5 more — is a fair guide to whether it matches your workflow. It is maintained by mixelpixx; worth a glance at recent repository activity before you build anything load-bearing on it.
We check each listing at SyncDev against the project's documentation before it goes live — if something here drifts out of date, it is a bug worth reporting.
