Inspect CI failures through CircleCI’s hosted endpoint.
CircleCI's hosted MCP server provides a vendor-run endpoint for diagnosing CI runs, inspecting job output and performing supported workflow actions.
The hosted endpoint is https://mcp.circleci.com/v1/mcp, with OAuth2 or a personal API token. It offers a focused set of CI-run tools. CircleCI's separate CLI MCP runs locally and exposes a broader command surface. Pick the hosted service for remote diagnostics; inspect the CLI documentation when local configuration and administrative workflows are needed.
Specify the project, branch and failing run. A useful sequence finds the run, locates the failed job and reads its failed-step logs. Ask for the evidence, likely cause and proposed fix. Distinguish a test failure from an infrastructure error or a missing credential.
rerun_workflow can rerun a workflow from the start or from failed jobs. Check the selected workflow and mode before executing it. A rerun that repeats a deterministic code error adds cost without resolving the cause.
If the connection succeeds but a project cannot be read, verify the signed-in user's project access. If a tool is absent, reconnect the host to refresh discovery. If authentication fails, renew the documented credential rather than changing the endpoint path at random.
The older standalone CircleCI package has a published deprecation notice. This profile describes the hosted replacement, so its endpoint and authentication should not be mixed with the old local package configuration.
Check the linked publisher documentation and your connected client's tool list. Names and availability can vary with the server version and account permissions.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| hello | Check connectivity to the hosted service. |
| list_runs | Find project runs with the documented filters. |
| get_job_logs | Read job-step output; the documented default targets failed steps. |
| rerun_workflow | Rerun a workflow, optionally beginning with failed jobs. |
